Jenny Wilkes, esteemed retail manager at Mary Stevens Hospice, Cradley Heath retires after  hugely successful innings. Her success is particularly poignant in the face of stiff competition from Tesco Extra that has come to dominate the town in recent years! Pictured here with long time volunteer Ivan, we wish her all the best for her future endeavors as she says she is well overdue for a long earned rest.

Thank you for your support in 2016!

MARY Stevens Hospice bosses have celebrated the launch of their 20th charity shop.

A new boutique outlet, to help pull in extra pounds for the Oldswinford based charity, was officially launched in Worcester Road on Friday October 2.

Simon Henwood, the Hospice's managing director for Trading, said the new shop was the culmination of many months of negotiation, planning and hard work and he added: "It marks a new chapter in the trading company's history - as whilst it may not be a large shop it is the first by request charity retail outlet to open in this prestigious location."

He thanked all those who helped to get the project off the ground and added: "I am sure it will be welcomed by the local people who already do so much to support the work of our hospice which for almost 25 years has tirelessly served, free of charge, the needs of our community.”

The Mary Stevens Hospice shop has opened in the former WH Smith building in High Street.

Managing director Simon Henwood said: “What a great day, it was an unusually high turn out.
“I think the queue snaked around the shop at one point. It was exceptional. There was a lot of interest and we even sold some of the furniture before we opened, which was fantastic.”

The grand opening at 11am and the Mayor of Dudley, Lady Mayoress, Leader of the Council Pete Lowe along with Hospice CEO Stevan Jackson (Pictured above).

One of the first customers, Lynne Shenton, from Stourbridge, said: “I think it is a great idea to have a shop here because its nice to have local charities represented in the town too.”

Mary Stevens Hospice is continuing to build on the kind generosity and support of the Dudley community for its Hospice by preparing to launch on Friday 31st July 2015 a new Flagship retail store in the centre of Dudley Town. Managing Director for Trading Simon Henwood said “We are so pleased and excited to bring this project to life after many months of discussion and negotiation. It really will be a fabulous resource for the Dudley and Black Country Community that we serve with further plans to expand the services it offers in due course. A big thank you to all who have expressed their support, to the team and to Black Country Radio who have assisted with the opening.”

Stevan Jackson, Chief Executive of Mary Stevens Hospice and Chairman of the hospice trading subsidiary said, “It is great news that this store marks a return to Dudley for Mary Stevens Hospice.  Establishing a presence in the very heart of our community is essential to the hospice’s mission to provide much needed support for those with life-shortening illness in the borough.  I have every confidence that with the support of the people of Dudley we can increase our impact and meet the needs of those people who require hospice care in our community”.

We look forward to the Mayor cutting the ribbon at 10.30am on Friday 31st July and cordially invite all to participate in the celebrations, for which light refreshments will be available. Come along and enjoy the entertainment and our fabulous opening offer of 25% off for the day.

I am writing to you on behalf of the all the volunteers at your Wombourne Shop. We feel you should have it on record that our Manageress Ruth and her Relief Manageress Anne are just fantastic. The are both extremely hard working and kind and because of this we have a superb and happy group of volunteers, which in turn makes it a very happy shop for our customers.

We all feel lucky to be part of their team and wanted you to know that the Mangers are the reason for this. They always put tremendous effort into the shop and into us and definitely go that extra mile. From all the volunteers at Mary Stevens Womboure.
